The Mission Indie-Mart

This popular monthly event features a tantalizing combination of shopping, music, and food.  Catering to the style conscious hipster, this event showcases truly independent local designers, offering everything from one-of-a-kind fashions and reconstructed vintage to offbeat crafts, handmade jewelry, and fun antiques.  Enjoy cheap beer, hot plates, local dj's and the cream of the crop of the San Francisco indie designer scene, with 45 vendors.

I just started my own blog!  Something that I have wanted to do for a while.  I just had to read a book and learn how to do it, something my Dad always said to do.  Visit my blog to learn more about katie jean,  and what I've been up to.  I will also begin a "feature of the week".  You can learn a little of the history behind the vintage pieces that I love and receive a special sale price.  Visit me at www.katiejean.wordpress.com.  Welcome and enjoy!

The Lincoln News Messenger

features katie jean

I am very excited! katie jean has been featured in the Thursday, October 11, 2007 issue of the Lincoln News Messenger (my local newspaper).  Reporter Cheri March came to my home and interviewed me in my studio, we had such a good time.  She was so great to talk with and convey all of my feeling about my handmade philosophy of repurposing all things vintage.  And photographer Karina Williams took pictures that I am pleased with, that I didn't turn out looking like a dork!  Thanks girls!!

Okinawa

Japan is such a wonderful place to visit.  The people are so friendly and helpful.  They made traveling with my 20 month old baby a lot easier than what I had expected it to be.  The food was wonderful, could there have been any doubt?  I had some fun eating out experiences of the sushi go-round, sitting on the floor at dinner time, having pasta with watermelon and tuna fish, and chicken mole.  I loved telling my boys how I ate eel and squid!

I had so much fun shopping and had three boxes of stuff to mail home.  My favorite was the ETWS store, such a variety of things.  There was so much katie jean inspiration for me to find there.  I have just made some little bath mits based on what I found in a Japanese shop.

I also visited a Japanese bath house.  Which was truly a Japanese experience.  I loved it, especially the whole body salt scrub.  We left at ten o'clock p.m. and were so relaxed, sleepy, and hungry.  We made a noodle stop before going on home to bed.

The day before I left to come home was a little cloudy and windy but it was a beach day.  Judith went exploring with Alena while I had my first snorkling experience with Chelsea and Leo (after my sister pushed me into the water, literally).  The fish were so beautiful and unexpectely bright and colorful.  After I got used to breathing underwater I could relax and enjoy what I was seeing around me.

I have been back from Japan for two weeks now and it is still hard for me to believe that I was ever there.  The daily tasks of life come back too soon.  I had such a wonderful visit with my sister it was a magical time we had together.

Thank you to all of my friends and family that helped Alena and I take this trip together.  You made it so much easier for me knowing that my boys were at home being well taken care of.  My love to you!

May 2006

I am a very lucky girl!  On May 1, I will be leaving for a two week visit to my sister in Japan.  And I am taking my littlest beauty baby with me!  I haven't flown anywhere for six years.  And now I get to go on such a long flight.  But it is so worth it.

I have three sisters, and I am very lucky if I can see them every two years.  But this sister in Japan, I saw just last summer when we had an all sister reunion in Lincoln (nieces and nephews were there too).  It is just so great to be with the people who really get you and know your history.

I will be staying in Okinawa.  Hopefully I will learn to snorkle, play tennis, visit a temple, have a massage, eat lots of sushi, and learn more about Japanese culture.  Did I mention shopping?  I am leaving plenty of room in my suitcase.  But, what I am really looking forward to is having some girl time.

If you would like to hear about my trip, just email me at: trottgirl@sbcglobal.net.  I will be sending daily messages to my friends, family, and Ms. Vinci's first grade class at Twelve Bridges Elementary School.

Sayonara, katie jean
